“How to Measure Your Windows for Curtains — A Step by Step Guide”
Introduction:
Getting the perfect fit for your curtains starts with accurate measurements. Whether you’re ordering made-to-measure curtains or ready-made, knowing how to measure correctly saves time, money and frustration. Follow our simple guide below.
What You’ll Need:
• A steel measuring tape
• A pencil and paper
• A ladder (for high windows)
Step 1 — Decide Where to Hang Your Curtain track
You have two options:
• Inside the window recess — for a neat, fitted look
• Outside the window recess — for a fuller, more dramatic look (recommended)
For outside mount, position your rod 15–20cm above the window frame.
Step 2 — Measure the Width
• Measure from wall to wall where your rod will sit
• For a full, luxurious look multiply width by 1.5 to 2.5 times
• Example: 150cm window = order 225cm–375cm of fabric
Step 3 — Measure the Drop (Length)
Choose your curtain length:
• Sill length — ends at the windowsill
• Below sill — drops 15cm below sill
• Floor length — ends 1cm above the floor (most popular)
• Puddle effect — sits 5–15cm on the floor (luxury look)
Step 4 — Write It Down
Always measure each window separately — even windows that look the same size are often slightly different.
Pro Tips:
✅ Always measure twice before ordering
✅ Use a steel tape — fabric tapes can stretch
✅ For bay windows, measure each section individually
